Amazon Sanne Thijssen has caused a big surprise in the fourth Global Champions Tour race of the year. The Limburger was the best in Madrid on the back of Con Quidam RB. The Global Champions Tour is a circuit for the best show jumping riders in the world.
Ten combinations had qualified for the jump-off and Thijssen had to enter the ring last. Five of them were again clear and the fastest time was in the hands of Darragh Kenny and Marlon Módolo Zanotelli (39.91).
Thijssen left nothing of that time with 39.15. The only 23-year-old recorded her biggest win to date. She also won the Rotterdam Grand Prix last year with Con Quidam and was part of the squad that won the Nations Cup-final.
The previous three matches in the Global Champions Tour yielded German victories.
In addition to sporting honor, her win in Madrid also earns Thijssen 100,000 euros in prize money. “It’s unbelievable to win here against all those good riders,” she said afterwards.
“I knew before the last obstacle that I was in the right time. So I took that obstacle on the safe side. Con Quidam was one hundred percent concentrated. He finished fantastic. It was a great feeling when I crossed the finish line .”
