The hot days in Jalisco will last another month. Hermes Ulises Ramírez, a researcher at the Institute of Astronomy and Meteorology (IAM) of the University of Guadalajara (UdeG) pointed out that it would be until the third week of June when the heat begins to decrease in the State, which is when the rains begin.
“Normally the heat is presented by meteorological phenomena that give us heat waves with which it increases several degrees significantly, but they are not permanent. After they pass, the temperature returns to normal conditions. But in reality the temperatures are quite high compared to other years and it may be the product of two phenomena: natural climate variability and the effect of climate change”, he explained.
The latter said, by actions such as burning of fossil fuel and lack of wooded areas or their conversion to areas with concrete that reflect heat.
He shared that the rains recorded this Wednesday do not mean that the storm has begun, but rather that they are the so-called “downpours of May.” It will be once there are three days of rain in a row when it will start.
However, he stressed that a year with the “La Niña” phenomenon is expected, which means that there will be more drought and they will not be as large as a normal year.
“In the end it will not be the same amount of water, it will be a little lower than 50 to 70 ml. There are times when there will be little rain of great intensity that will cause great problems in the cities, but if it rains intensely it does not mean that it is more water”, he detailed.
And, although this phenomenon is expected, in recent years there is no longer regularity and it can quickly change to neutral or El Niño.
