The British police want to hand out at least 100 fines to politicians who took part in parties and organized parties during corona lockdowns. This is reported by the corps in the investigation into the ‘party gate’ case.
The case revolves around government parties that were regularly attended by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The parties took place while other Britons were not allowed to visit their friends and family due to strict corona rules.
Johnson was previously fined for a meeting in honor of his birthday on June 19, 2020. Then he was surprised with a cake and serenaded by dozens of colleagues.
It is not clear whether the police want to issue another fine to Johnson. According to British media, he attended several parties. Johnson first denied attending illegal parties, later saying he was unaware that he had broken the rules.
The British Prime Minister came under great pressure because of the scandal. Several members of his Conservative Party called for his resignation and his party lost many seats to the opposition Labor party in local elections.
Not only the police are investigating the ‘party gate’: the British House of Commons is also coming up with a parliamentary investigation into government parties during coronalockdowns. Investigators can propose sanctions that could lead to a suspension or removal of Johnson from the House of Commons.
