With Club Brugge, Schreuder is still in the race for prolongation of the national title. With two games to go, Club is three points ahead of nearest attacker Union.
Champion with Twente, but also fired
During his playing career, Schreuder played for Feyenoord, RKC, NAC, FC Twente and Vitesse. After his career, he started working as an assistant coach at Vitesse, made the switch to Twente and became national champion there as Steve McClaren’s assistant in 2010. He eventually made it to head coach at the Tukkers, but after disappointing results in 2015 laid off.
A few months later, he appeared at Hoffenheim as an assistant to Julian Nagelsmann until he joined the Ajax staff in January 2018. A year and a half later, he made the reverse journey to become the head coach of the Germans.
That adventure was cut short in June 2020 because Schreuder and Hoffenheim differed in opinion. Not much later Ronald Koeman took him to Barcelona as an assistant.
After the resignation of Koeman and Schreuder in October 2021, the new Ajax trainer appeared in Belgium, where he did a good job at Bruges. With the approaching championship in Belgium and the good cooperation earlier under Ten Hag, he has now landed in Amsterdam again.
