Sparta coach Maurice Steijn is going to report threats. The trainer and his family say they are again threatened after a goal by his son Sem on Tuesday on behalf of ADO Den Haag visiting NAC Breda.
Twenty-year-old Steijn opened the scoring in the Rat Verlegh Stadium on Wednesday. After his goal, he stood with his arms spread in front of the fanatical Breda supporters and pointed to his last name on the ADO shirt. Later, he also raised his middle finger when he was whistled.
“It has been quite hectic,” said Maurice Steijn, after he had won 2-0 with Sparta against PEC Zwolle, in front of the camera of ESPN† “That action from yesterday? That was a super action. I was proud of the action he did.”
Steijn stepped down as coach of NAC almost a year ago, because he and his family would have been threatened by supporters of the Brabant club. At the time, Steijn was involved in a power struggle at NAC with club icon and then technical director Ton Lokhoff, which would have caused bad blood among the fans.
“What came in today, also towards my children, that defies everything,” said Steijn about the new threats. “We are going to report that. We left that out last year because we didn’t want to make it even bigger.”

‘It was pretty downplayed last year by NAC icons’
Despite the victory of Sparta, Steijn was furious in front of the camera. “It was pretty downplayed last year by NAC icons and leading journalists who have NAC hearts,” he continued.
“We received a lot of threats last night and this morning, which were again downplayed from a number of camps there. I would also like to thank all the people who participated in character assassination towards me, that my children are now again under threat.”
Thanks in part to the young Steijn’s goal, ADO won 1-2 against NAC in the first round of the play-offs. The return is scheduled in The Hague on Saturday at 4.30 pm.
