One person died and at least six were injured last night in armed attacks on bars from the urban area of Cancun, Quintana Roo in the Mexican Caribbean, reported local authorities.
The Quintana Roo state prosecutor’s office reported that there is a detainee for this aggression recorded at night on Kabah avenue, which houses several entertainment centers frequented by residents of Cancun.
“Six people were injured and one more lost his life from firearm shots,” reported a brief report from the prosecution released on its website and on social networks.
According to local media, the sites attacked are two bars that days before would have been threatened by alleged criminals.
The shots unleashed panic among the many people who were in these entertainment centers, local press reported.
In Cancun, with some 880,000 inhabitants, there are criminal cells that extort money from merchants or pressure them to get involved in drug sales.
Similar incidents have been reported in urban areas of Caribbean resorts for more than a decade, some of them involving foreign residents who have set up businesses.
