A sewage leak has been contaminating a ravine in the Nixticuil Forest for at least half a year without a response from the authorities, the Committee in Defense of the El Nixticuil Forest denounced on social networks.
“Over the weekend we did sanitation work and the sewage has already traveled more than 100 meters, the smell is unbearable”
Sofía Hernández, a member of the Committee, explained that it was six months ago, when they detected her, that they took on the task of investigating where she came from. So they found that It is a drainage tube that crosses the forest and that arrives from a subdivision near the place.
“We started making reports and there has been no response. It is a pipe that empties into a sewer on the edge of the forest, but everything drains into the ravine, where even water is born. Over the weekend we did sanitation work and the sewage has already traveled more than 100 meters, the smell is unbearable,” said Sofía.
In addition, he pointed out that other neighbors informed them that they also made reports to both the municipality and the Intermunicipal Potable Water and Sewage System (SIAPA), “and nothing.”
He added that they are concerned because, in addition to being a Protected Natural Area, they may be polluting the aquifers.
