After two years of being suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jalisco Health Secretariat (SSJ)in alliance with the Federation of University Students (FEU) of the University of Guadalajaraannounced a new edition of the altruistic donation campaign “Blood of Lion”.
There will be seven university centers that will once again open their doors to the staff of the SSJ that they will visit them to inform, train and promote altruistic blood donation; as well as to carry the Mobile Unit in order to collect the blood that is intended, be donated by the students, as well as the teaching and administrative staff who like to join the cause.
Its about CUCEI, CUCEA, CUALTOS, CUTONALA, CUSUR, CUCS and CUCOSTA, that will open their doors for this day from April 25 to May 24. Safe blood and blood products, as well as their transfusion, are one of the most important aspects of medical care and public health as they are the means to save thousands of people a year and improve the quality of life of many patients on a day-to-day basis, according to what was explained by the state Health Secretary, Fernando Petersen Aranguren.
For this fourth edition, the “Sangre de León” campaign also has the objective of institutionalizing and replicating altruistic blood donation, reaching more than 74,000 members of the University of Guadalajara (UdeG), family and community in general.
“After three consecutive years of carrying out this campaign with extremely successful results, the SSJ, FEU and the OPD Civil Hospital of Guadalajarawe saw the need to take a break due to the situation caused by the global pandemic of COVID-19. blood of lion it is the most successful campaign of altruistic donation in the state”, explained Petersen Aranguren.
“Regarding the procurement, availability and supply of safe blood, with the national average of altruistic donation being 3% during 2021, Jalisco attended only in el State Blood Transfusion Center (CETS) 21 thousand 302 donors of which 11 thousand 31 were eligible, being only 419 who did it altruistically, that is, 3.7% of altruistic donation”, indicated the state official.
For the SSJ The challenge is to reach and exceed the figures prior to the pandemic, which is why he invited the general population to actively participate, since blood donation saves lives. The national goal established for the year 2024 is to reach 10 percent of altruistic donation.
For his part, the President FEU Javier Armentaunveiled the APP “blood of lion”, available on Android and iOS, through which the requirements to donate blood can be known, in addition to the details of the campaign can be consulted on the official page and social networks of the FEU and on the Sangre de León page.
“The goal is to collect two thousand units of safe blood through a mobile unit that will visit the University Centers, train 20 thousand people in altruistic donation and obtain one thousand Ambassadors, impacting a total of 74 thousand people among high school students. superior, administrative staff, teaching staff and society in general”, indicated the executive director of Health from FEUMichel Alejandro Nuño. In turn, the director general of the OPD Civil Hospital of Guadalajara, Jaime Federico Andrade, indicated that for the organization it is pleasing to have this important campaign, since blood transfusion “is the transplant with the largest donation that exists in the world”, but the ideal is that most donations are altruistic ; what does not happen today.
