Asunción, capital of Paraguay, host of the South American Games in October 2022
The Global Esports Federation announced the South American Esports Championship in parallel to the South American Games in Asunción next October.
In preparation for that historic esports event, GEF will present a Festival at the South American Youth Games in Rosario, Argentina, from April 28 to May 8.
“The South American Esports Championship is the first global esports event to be held in our region. Together with the 2022 South American Games, these events expand Paraguay’s aspiration to more important international competitions,” said Camilo Pérez López Moreira, president of the South American Sports Organization (ODESUR).
“The partnership with the Global Esports Federation is taking shape, bringing together the necessary capabilities and infrastructure to harness the limitless potential of esports in the region,” he added.
“We are making exciting strides as we continue to bring our portfolio of global events to different continents around the world. The South American Esports Championship supports the mission of the Global Esports Federation and cements our commitment to fostering great collaborations in our #worldconnected community to elevate esports on the global sports and entertainment stage,” said Chris Chan, GEF President.

The realization of both programs in Rosario and Asunción are tangible results of the strategic alliance between the GEF and ODESUR announced in June 2020; supported by the PanAm Esports Development Federation, established by the GEF in 2021, assured a statement from the regional body.
The announcement coincided with the arrival in Rosario of the torch that carries the fire that will start the South American Youth Games. The flame returned to the capital of the province of Santa Fe, after touring several cities.
