The fight undertaken by the University of Guadalajara (UdeG) to achieve budgetary autonomy is not for pesos or cents, “It is for all the young people and children of Jalisco, who deserve an opportunity to study to aspire to a better world and life,” The rector general, Ricardo Villanueva Lomelí, highlighted yesterday when rendering his third report on activities at the Santander Performing Arts Ensemble.
After the projection of a video about the marches carried out in past months as a protest against the cut of 140 million pesos (MDP) that had been tagged for the Museum of Environmental Sciences, the university community that attended the event that took place in Zapopan began to shout: “You are not alone!”.
In response, the rector of the UdeG emphasized: “If they mess with one, they mess with everyone. And that has to be understood.”
He pointed out that the main legal strategy to prevent the state Executive from redirecting the resources labeled for the museum is on the right track. mentioned. “We are going to win that trial because we are right.”
Among his achievements, Villanueva Lomelí explained that budget cuts have not slowed down the growth of the university: in the present administration more than 30 thousand students have joined.
In three years, two thousand 774 million pesos have been invested in works; almost half was obtained through the austerity plan.
However, the lack of support from the federal and state governments puts the construction of new spaces at risk.
