In Helmond, people hung socks on a clothesline all weekend. They wanted to set the world record for ‘longest clothesline with socks’ ever.
Volunteers had collected more than 100,000 socks to fill a 7,000-meter clothesline. The current record stands at 6,000 meters.
So they made it easy, they thought. Only: there turned out to be a mistake in the calculations. So they didn’t have a washing line of 7,000 meters but of 5,750 meters. 250 meters short for a record! Nevertheless, it was a successful day for the Helmonders. Because with the campaign they have helped people who do not have much money.
All socks on the clothesline are recycled or given to refugees.
