In China, a plane with 132 people on board has crashed in the south of the country, in Guangxi province. The China Eastern Boeing 737-800 was flying between the cities of Kunming, in the southwest, and Guangzhou, in the southeast.
The device lost contact about 25 kilometers from Wuzhou and in a few minutes plummeted from an altitude of about 8,000 meters.
The incident has caused a fire in the mountains of Wuzhou
A fire broke out in the area of the disaster in the mountains of Wuzhou, where rescue teams are working but with little prospect of finding survivors.
According to the Chinese Civil Aviation, the plane crashed with 123 passengers and 9 crew members on board, without the circumstances of the incident being known.
Xi Jinping has declared himself shocked
Chinese President Xi Jinping has declared himself “shocked” and the State Council has formed a committee to investigate the causes of the accident. It is the worst civil air disaster recorded in the Asian country since 2010.
After confirming the event, the airline’s shares lost 16% and Boeing shares fell sharply. China Eastern has ordered all 737-800 aircraft to remain grounded until more information is available on what happened.
