With a penalty goal by Argentine Gonzalo Higuaín, Inter Miami lost this Saturday 3-1 against FC Cincinnati and added its third loss in the first four days of the North American Soccer League (MLS).
The team co-owned by David Beckham has added just one point out of a possible 12 at the start of the campaign and provisionally occupies the third-last place in the Eastern Conference.
This Saturday, Inter conceded the first goal in the 18th minute with a combination by FC Cincinnati culminating in a left-footed shot by Costa Rican Ronald Matarrita.
Just six minutes later it made it 2-0 with a header in the area by American Brandon Vázquez, who took advantage of a failed start by goalkeeper Drake Callender.
Inter cut back in the 30th minute through Higuaín, who converted a maximum penalty committed by Matarrita on winger DeAndre Yedlin.
The veteran Argentine striker thus scored his first goal of this campaign start, in which he has been publicly pressured by coach Phil Neville to be more decisive in the games.
In the final stretch, the Argentine Luciano Acosta missed a penalty for FC Cincinnati in the 78th minute but, without Inter being able to react, Vázquez made it 3-1 in a counterattack in the 82nd minute.
In another of the first results of the date, the New York City FC, defending champion, fell 2-0 on their field against the Philadelphia Union with goals from veteran Alejandro Bedoya in the 12th minute and Hungarian Dániel Gazdag in the 33rd.
The New York team, led by Argentine forward Valentin Castellanos, achieved an agonizing qualification for the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions League on Tuesday despite a 4-2 defeat at the Guatemalan Communications court.
– FC Dallas thrash Portland Timbers –
In Dallas, Colombian striker Jesús Ferreira was the man of the match with a hat-trick as FC Dallas thrashed the Portland Timbers 4-1.
The goals of the game for the locals were scored by Ferreira who converted a hat trick (25, 29 and 36) and the Californian Paul Arriola (31).
While the visitors’ goal was made by Jaroslaw Niezgoda (15).
FC Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paes was instrumental in the match, saving four dangerous shots.
On the next date FC Dallas will visit Chicago Fire and the Timbers will play at home against Orlando City SC at Jeld-Wen Field.
Orlando City SC beat LA Galaxy 1-0 with an early goal in the ninth minute from Uruguayan Facundo Torres, who scored a sensational header to the left post after an assist from Austrian Ercan Kara.
