Sony has announced in a statement to IGN that it will stop selling software and hardware in Russia. That’s because of the invasion of Ukraine.
“Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) joins the global call for peace in Ukraine,” the statement said. “We have suspended shipments of all software and hardware, the release of Gran Turismo 7 and the PlayStation Store in Russia. To support humanitarian aid, Sony Group Corporation will donate $2 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees ( UNHCR) and the international NGO, Save the Children, to support the victims.”
Sony joins loads of other game companies speaking out against the invasion of . In both Russia and neighboring Belarus, Epic Games, CD Projekt Red, EA, Microsoft, Take-Two, Ubisoft and many more companies have stopped selling their games. Nintendo has also decided to postpone Advanced Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp due to the war.
Other companies have announced that they will make a donation or offer some other form of assistance. Itch.io has a bundle of nearly 1,000 games that can be purchased for a $10 donation.
