In 2020, filmmaker Ridley Scott already revealed that he was working on a new Alien film. He couldn’t tell you much more than that at the time, but it is now clear that he will not direct the film himself. Fede Alvarez will take charge of this new project.
Fede Alvarez is known for the horror film Don’t Breathe (2016), which he directed. He is also involved as a producer on films such as Don’t Breathe 2 (2021) and Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022). Now, under the guidance of producer Ridley Scott, who directed Alien, he will direct and write a new version of the film. The film will be shown in the United States on the Hulu streaming service. How the sci-fi will be distributed in the Netherlands is as yet unknown.
The original Alien movie follows the crew of a starship who comes into contact with a bloodthirsty alien. Starring Tom Skeritt, Yaphet Kotto, John Hurt, Harry Dean Stanton, Ian Holm, Veronica Cartwright and Sigourney Weaver. The film became a huge success and led to sequels and spin-offs including Aliens (1986), Alien³ (1992) and Alien: Resurrection (1997). However, Alvarez’ version of the film will not be linked to the storylines of the previous films. He will approach the project from a new angle.
