The Western Institute of Technology and Higher Studies (ITESO) projects the creation of a new multifunctional building. Alexander Zatyrka appointed rector of the university on January 17, reported that this month preparation work will begin for the land where the space will be built, which will have classrooms for both undergraduate and postgraduate students and ITESO High School.
The latter, with a high demand, so more than half of the applicants had to be left out. In their first year they received 400 requests but only accepted 192.
“(The new construction) is a multifunctional building. The university of the future has to be like this. No institution can afford to waste anything, not even the spaces. We are moving to a culture of ordering everything, so as not to waste because We have a lot of demand that we still can’t meet.” said.
He stressed that construction is a priority, since there are spaces planned for a law degree and a business school, in addition to the renovation of the places that already exist and that need to be kept up to date, especially in a pandemic when technology and hybrid classrooms are essential.
Another project is to continue renewing the study plans to maintain validity and that its graduates are the best in their areas.
“At the moment that these things are stagnant to the university, it is out of the market and this circulates in society,” he commented.
In addition, Zatyrka stressed that the main challenge in his rectory is that students do not see the university as a parenthesis in their lives.
“We want you to maintain the conviction that this is going to be one of the most important parts of your life, that you enjoy it and make the most of it, and lay the foundations and roots of what the rest of your life is going to be.”
He stressed that it is essential to make classes more interesting, but even more so to create an interesting and relevant atmosphere and community, with the support of a team that helps professional and humanistic training. “We don’t want scholars, for that we have Google, we want wise people who know how to integrate realities, experiences and knowledge from a well-formed and internalized scale of values, training for autonomy,” she said.
