Recently, the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (Condusef), announced that, during the third quarter of 2021, the direct premium in the Accident and Illness area was 84 billion pesos, figure that represented more than 17% of the total portfolio of insurers.
In addition, the sector presented a growth of 6.7% compared to the same period in 2020. However, also in an area in which several claims were filed. According to the decentralized organization, the insurers with the most claims related to the number of insured risks of major medical expenses and personal accidents were the following:
1. Metlife Mexico with 14 complaints
2. Monterey Insurance with eight complaints
3. Axa with six complaints
4. Provincial National Group (GNP) with six complaints

As indicated by the Commission, the sector average is 2 claims for every 100,000 insured risks and during the second quarter of 2021 it was 3 complaints. On the other hand, there were also favorable resolutions within the insurance industry and it was the companies Zurich Santander, Inbursa Insurance Y Monterey Insurance those that resolved more in favor of the clients, with 41, 24 and 22%, respectively.
In addition, with respect to the second quarter of 2021, in the last update released by the Condusef, Seguros Inbursa Y Banorte Insurance lowered their favorable resolution.
As for the time it takes insurers to resolve a claim, the industry average was 20 business days in the third quarter of 2021, while in the second quarter it was 26. The insurers that took the least time to resolve a complaint were :
1. Axa, Zurich Santander, GNP with 16 days
2. Monterey Insurance with 13 days.
Regarding the second quarter of 2021, insurers Metlife México, Zurich Santander, GNP Y Monterey InsuranceThey decreased their response time. The application is a consultation and dissemination tool with which it will be possible to know the products offered by financial entities, their commissions and rates, the complaints of the users, the unhealthy practices in which they incur, the administrative sanctions that have been imposed on them, the abusive clauses of their contracts and other information that is relevant to inform you about their performance.
Recently, Condusef and the Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (AMIS) developed the “Minerva Project App” for operating systems IOS Y Android, which will have the purpose of facilitating the development of courses on financial education for women.
