Through a statement they sent their condolences and condemned the murder of the journalist Lourdes Maldonado López, whose life was taken this Sunday in Lower California.
The text highlights that although a relationship between his murder and his work as a professional has not been clearly established, it cannot be ignored that It is the second murder of a journalist in Tijuana, just so far this week.
“It demonstrates, once again, the very worrying degree of violence and intimidation faced by many journalists in Mexico. We regret that so far in 2022, Mrs. Maldonado will already be the third victim after in 2021 nine journalists were murdered”, indicated the representations.
Through the statement they ask the authorities at the federal and state levels to make all the necessary efforts to give effective protection to journalists, because at the moment exercising this profession It involves risking life.
“Given the alarming number of attacks against journalists in the country, we urge all competent authorities to use all means at their disposal to guarantee the protection of all journalists in Mexico and prevent impunity from covering the murder of Mrs. Maldonado López”, concluded the embassies.
