Copenhagen, Jan 25 (EFE) .- The Swedish telecommunications group Ericsson earned 23,000 million crowns (2,196 million euros) in 2021, 30% more year-on-year, the company reported on Tuesday. The net operating profit (ebit) was 31,800 million (3,036 million euros), 14% more. Net sales amounted to 232,000 million (22,179 million euros), a figure almost identical to that registered the previous year. The Swedish firm earned 10.1 billion crowns (964 million euros) in the last quarter, 41% more than the same period in 2020. Ebit amounted to 11.9 billion (1,136 million euros), 8% better. Net sales reached 71,300 million (6,808 million euros), a 3% improvement. Our strategy of investing in technology leadership and increased market shares in our core business supported a strong financial result in 2021. Ericsson highlighted the growth registered in North America, Europe and Latin America thanks to the deployment of the 5G network and higher market shares, which offset the decline experienced in China. The Swedish authorities excluded the Chinese Huawei and ZTE from the development of 5G technology in 2020 for security reasons, thanks to a law approved by Parliament, in a controversial decision endorsed months later by the courts. The actions of the authorities were criticized both by the Chinese government and by Ericsson itself, a competitor of Huawei but with great interests in the market of that Asian country.
