The Ministry of Health of the Nation reported this Monday, January 24, that, in the last 24 hours, 78,121 new coronavirus infections and 281 deaths were registered: the highest figure in 160 days. The last time a higher number of deaths was recorded was on August 17, 2021 with 300 deaths.

The number of deaths reported today could be a consequence of the peak of almost 140,000 positive cases that the country registered on January 14. Thus, the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic amounted to 7,940,657, while the deceased add up to 119,444.

Ahead of the start of classes, on March 2, the Minister of Education, Jaime Perczyk, spoke today at the launching ceremony of the National Campaign “We are vaccinated to go to school” and asked to work very hard so that at the moment from the start of school everyone is protected with the vaccine.

“On March 2, classes begin in 22 of the 24 provinces, 90% of kindergarten and primary school children return to school and we hope that it will be a restorative start to the school year, that will repair so much pain, so much anguish, so many things. that happened to the Argentines, and for that one of the tasks that we have to do is to vaccinate all of us”, said the Minister.

A little over a year after the launch of the Strategic Vaccination Plan, on Saturday, January 22, the National Ministry of Health exceeded 100 million vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 distributed throughout the national territory and in recipient countries through donations.

This is 100,892,681 vaccines distributed, of which 5,083,000 were donated within the framework of solidarity and reciprocity policies to countries with low coverage to accelerate their access to vaccination. The rest, exactly 95,809,681, were delivered to the 24 jurisdictions of the country.

“The distribution of vaccines throughout the national territory made possible the high levels of coverage achieved. Thus, 86.2% of the total population began their vaccination schedule, while 74.5% completed it. As for the population over 3 years of age, the figure rises to 90.5% with an initiated scheme and 78.3% with a complete scheme,” they said of the portfolio led by the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti.

According to data from the Public Vaccination Monitor, until this afternoon 84,971,817 doses were applied: 39,321,192 people started their scheme and 34,498,753 completed it, while 2,994,473 people received additional doses and 8,157,399 received doses reinforcement.

At the moment, the health portfolio seeks to establish an update for the confirmation of cases of COVID-19 by clinical and epidemiological criteria.

After a new meeting (the third this month) between Minister Carla Vizzotti and her provincial peers, it was decided to classify as a confirmed case any person who meets at least one of the epidemiological criteria and one of the established clinical criteria.

Thus, any person who has had close contact with a confirmed case in the last 10 days; or who has participated in an event or social/work space in which there have been at least 3 confirmed cases (outbreak); or who resides in an area with a very high incidence (more than 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days) and who has two or more symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, vomiting/diarrhea/pain headache/muscle pain) or sudden loss of taste/smell, it will be considered a confirmed case of this disease.
