They were seven in custody. Only six will be prosecuted. On Friday, six young men aged 14 to 18 were summoned to court for assaulting and robbing students on the Beaulieu campus of Rennes-1 University. Four of them are of Albanian nationality, one is Italian and one is French, specifies the public prosecutor of Rennes.
Their arrest took place at the beginning of the week after a series of attacks in the Beaulieu district between November 25 and December 11, 2021. Nine students had filed a complaint for similar facts. Approached when they were alone, the victims were threatened by a group of individuals armed with a knife, before being subjected to violence. Their attackers stole their personal belongings, bank cards or telephones. The defendants then demanded the bank code and that of the telephone. On four occasions, withdrawals of up to 560 euros had been made just after the flight, according to departmental security investigators.
Extortion with a weapon, thefts and scams
One of the victims had received two stab wounds in the thighs, causing seven days of total interruption of work. The major will be summoned before the criminal court in May. Four of the five minors will be tried by the juvenile court on Monday. As for the last, he will be prosecuted before the court of Saint-Malo. In police custody, some of the defendants partially admitted the facts. They will be tried for extortion with a weapon, robbery with a weapon and fraud.
