The number of patients with Covid-19 hospitalized in critical care continues to slowly decline, with 3,746 patients concerned on Saturday January 22, according to figures from Public Health France. With 3,792 the day before and 3,852 a week earlier, critical care services, which treat the most serious cases, particularly in intensive care, have recorded a slight drop for several days. If it is much more contagious than its predecessors, the Omicron variant also gives fewer severe forms, which is reflected in particular by shorter passages in hospital and less frequent admissions to intensive care. Currently, 28,515 Covid patients are received at the hospital, compared to 28,457 on Friday and 24,544 a week earlier, specifies Public Health France. In 24 hours, 1,994 people were admitted to hospital, or 2,666 new hospitalizations per day on average over the last seven days.
Some 167 people died of Covid-19 in 24 hours, according to data published on Saturday by Public Health France. This brings the total death toll to at least 128,514 since the outbreak began.
