Cinemas in the Netherlands have been closed since the new lockdown in mid-December. There was also no good news during last week’s press conference. The theaters are now fed up and are already preparing for reopening, the Dutch Association of Cinemas and Filmtheaters (NVBF) reported today.
Two days after the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), the cinemas had to close. Many film lovers desperately move to Belgium and Germany, where the theaters are still allowed to receive visitors. The sector has announced that it is also safe here.
The NVBF calls on cinemas and movie theaters to be removed from the lockdown and open with a QR code or with the one and a half meter measure and a mouth cap obligation. According to the sector association, open until 5 p.m. is not an option, because insufficient turnover can be generated.
NVBF also adds that a cinema experience can help to take people, and especially the young, out of the social isolation that we all currently have to deal with. The NVBF has not yet announced a concrete opening date. The next press conference will be held on January 25. Hopefully the cinemas will then receive good news or at least more prospects will be offered for the sector.
