President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) took up the issue of complaints against the historian Pedro Salmerón, proposed by him as the new ambassador of Mexico in Panama, by pointing out this Wednesday morning that complaints should be filed against him, because otherwise the accusations about the alleged sexual harassment against women is a campaign with political interests.
“Nobody can be judged if there is no process according to the law, if there is no evidence”
AMLO pointed out, during his conference “morning”, that it is not necessary to transcend the public denunciation when mentioning:
“There are conditions to legally denounce those who commit an abuse or an illegal act, we all have to help, because if they are not campaigns that can be started and they would not act with justice”.
“No one can be judged if there is no legal process, if there is no evidence. Imagine an opponent, any people, who is not well seen by the media, they finish him off, destroy him, they are lynching campaigns, then no, the most convenient is to file a complaint”.
López Obrador asserted that the accusations of alleged sexual harassment against the historian have taken more force because there are political interests and their opponents use everything.
“Pedro Salmerón has been having differences in the academy with colleagues, women and men; political differences, he was at ITAM and there he had a position and that’s where he came from. Then we invited him to enter INEHRM and he gave an opinion on the League ( Communist) on September 23 and they attacked him very strongly and he preferred to resign. I worked in Guadalajara in a museum, but now he’s being questioned about it.”
“Public complaints had already been made, but without them being presented to the authorities and the subject was not discussed, but now it is already a controversial issue, so let the authorities resolve it and in this case, who is going to approve the proposal that I send?” It’s the Senate.”
