Cafés and restaurants in Valkenburg have just opened today, even though the corona rules don’t allow that. But they do it anyway, in protest against the lockdown.
From 10:00 to 16:00 people could have something to eat and drink on the terrace in the Limburg place.
Owners of cafes and restaurants in Valkenburg have had extra bad luck this year. Due to the corona rules, they had to close recently. But in the summer many businesses were also closed because of the floods in South Limburg. As a result, they could not receive guests and therefore earn nothing.
Tonight, the government will probably announce in a new press conference that cafes and restaurants will have to remain closed even longer. The bar owners and restaurateurs in Valkenburg are angry about this.
Mayor Daan Prevoo understands how people feel and is therefore not going to intervene. Also, cafes and restaurants do not receive warnings or fines. But then everyone has to keep 1.5 meters away and wear a mouth cap, he said.
