In an armed attack Salúl Nava Astudillo, former PRI candidate for mayor of Tixtla, Guerrero, was shot dead, on Wednesday morning when he was accompanying the funeral procession of his uncle, Vicente Astudillo Navarro. Salúl Nava is the cousin of former PRI governor Héctor Astudillo Flores.
According to reports from the State Police, around 11:30 in the morning the procession passed through Igualdad Street, near the municipal cemetery, in the Campo Santo neighborhood, when armed men attacked the politician, who was also running for the PRI.
The report indicates that the attack wounded Nava Astudillo’s wife, while the corpse of the former candidate was left lying in the middle of the street.
Nava Astudillo was a PRI candidate for mayor of Tixtla on three occasions. The last position he held was within the government of his cousin, Héctor Astudillo, as administrative delegate of the Secretariat for Women.
