Martínez had been displaced from the Buenos Aires Police in 2020 with a psychiatric folder
Former Buenos Aires police officer Matías Ezequiel Martínez, 26, was sentenced this Tuesday to life imprisonment for the femicide of his ex-partner Úrsula Bahillo, the 18-year-old who was prohibited from approaching due to multiple complaints of violence gender that she had filed against him.
Martínez – separated from the Buenos Aires Police with a psychiatric folder months before the crime – was found guilty of having stabbed the young woman 15 times with a butcher knife on February 8 of this year in the rural area Guido Spano – close to the city de Rojas, in the northwest of the province of Buenos Aires- where he had supposedly summoned her to resolve their differences.
Judges Karina Piegari, Claudia Dana and Esteban Melilli of the Oral Criminal Court No. 1 of the city followed the guidelines of the accusation made by the prosecutor Sergio Terrón, who also instructed the case and asked that Martínez be convicted perpetually.
Unusually, Court personnel refused to accredit Infobae in the oral and public trial to witness the hearing remotely. After various delays, they chose not to send the link with various excuses and negatives. The presidency of TOC N ° 1 did not offer an explanation either to the repeated calls.

In the first and only hearing of the debate, ten witnesses testified -on December 3 last- among them the father of the victim and also the former policeman and former partner of Bahillo. Martínez assured OCD 1 that he had no intention of killing the young woman and that she “attacked” him in the first instance.
Martínez’s defense, on the other hand, and in line with the defendant’s version, had asked that Martínez be convicted of a homicide in excess of legitimate defense. This was ruled out by the court.
In turn, the lawyer Emiliano Basso, who represents the family of the young woman murdered as a private victim in the case, accompanied the request of the representative of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Martínez –separated from the Buenos Aires Police since 2020– has been currently detained in the Penal Unit 49 of Junín since the day of the crime. On February 22, in addition, Héctor Alberto Barbera, the judge in Correctional 1 of Junín, was convicted of the crimes of minor aggravated injuries in competition with aggravated threats, to the detriment of another former partner, attacked in 2017.

These four years in prison will be unified with the single sentence of life imprisonment for the femicide of Úrsula, as confirmed by judicial spokesmen.
According to the request for a trial made by Terrón, “on the same day of the event, in the morning hours, the defendant Martínez was summoned to the Rojas Tax Assistantship to be notified of the imposition of a perimeter that prevented him from approaching Úrsula Bahillo and, as is well stated in the procedural record, she was in her possession at the time of her arrest ”.
The document indicates that “said restriction was not an obstacle to arranging a meeting with the victim in the afternoon” and that “said meeting to which the victim agreed must inevitably be done from a gender perspective, understanding that a woman manipulated that cannot break a web of threats and violence, she goes to speak with the accused to clarify the situation they were experiencing and for which she had denounced him, ”said Terrón.
