Hawkeye has quite a few flashbacks to the past, and episode four takes that one step further. In that episode, the series connects directly to the post-credits scene of a previously released MCU movie and introduces a new character.
Spoilers for Hawkeye Episode 4 follow in this article! If you haven’t seen this episode yet, read no further!
During the fight at the end of the episode, we see that a masked figure turns out to be Yelena Belova (played by Florence Pugh). That’s the sister of Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow.
The last time we saw Yelena was in the post-credits scene of the Black Widow movie. There she visited Natasha’s grave before meeting Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. He asks her if she wants “a shot at the man responsible for your sister’s death.” She then gives Yelena a photo of Clint Barton, though anyone who’s seen Endgame knows that Natasha’s death is a little more complicated than that.
In the episode we see that Barton is still struggling with the death of Natasha and the introduction of Yelena in the series indicates that it won’t get any easier for him right away.

Despite seeing Yelena in the episode, many viewers expected a different person. There are rumors that Vincent D’Onofrio will appear as Kingpin in the series and this episode referred to him several times. Thus, a person is referred to as “the great man.” Kingpin is therefore not in episode 4 and it is therefore at least a week before he can be seen.
Yelena’s appearance in the series is the first major crossover between MCU projects from Phase 4. Hopefully, this is the first of many connections between various Marvel projects. It has already been confirmed that Charlie Cox will one day return as Daredevil.
