MANCHESTER, England (AP) – Former US international Chris Armas will serve as assistant to German manager Ralf Rangnick at Manchester United.
Armas, 49, was the coach of the New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC teams, both in MLS.
Rangnick announced Tuesday the hiring of Armas whom he knew, he said, when the American was an assistant coach in New York, when this club was led by American Jesse Marsch.
Rangnick served as global director of soccer for the Red Bulls team network.
Armas played in the MLS for the Los Angeles Galaxy and the Chicago Fire, and in 66 occasions he wore the jersey of the US national team.
Rangnick was named United’s interim manager until the end of the season last week. He replaced the Norwegian Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was fired on 21 November.
