New blow for the French church.
The pope has accepted the resignation of the Archbishop of Paris, Michel Aupetit, who has admitted to having had an ambiguous relationship with a woman in 2012.
“The Holy Father has accepted the resignation of the pastoral government of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Paris (France) presented by HE Msgr. Michel Aupetit,” the Vatican announced in a statement released this Thursday.
The archbishop says he resigned so as not to harm the institution. But this crisis is added to the scandal by the devastating report that recognizes more than 200,000 cases of pedophilia in the French church since 1950.
Two events that undermine the confidence of the French parishioners in their ecclesiastical leadership.
