A fire in an abandoned bank office occupied by several people in the Spanish city of Barcelona (northeast) left four dead, including a small child and a baby, firefighters reported Tuesday.
The victims are “two adults, a baby and a three-year-old child,” Ángel López, from the Barcelona fire brigade, told reporters, who specified that the fire was already “totally extinguished.”
“At 6 in the morning we received a notice (…) from a witness who saw a fire” in an “old occupied bank office” located in the Plaza de Tetuán in the second Spanish city, the firefighter explained.
The rescuers found the four victims and acted “to revive them, and unfortunately the work has been unsuccessful, nothing could be done for their lives,” he lamented.
Four other people, who had taken refuge in a courtyard, could be rescued, he added.
