Within the framework of the inauguration of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL 2021), two groups of demonstrations faced each other with slogans and shouts.
On the one hand, protesters who said they were students of the University protested against the leaders of the House of Studies and they launched slogans against the president of the FIL Raúl Padilla and the rector Ricardo Villanueva.
“We are meeting not against FIL, or the University, we are proud of it; but against those who run it. We are against those who have kidnapped the University, we demand audits,” said one of the protesters who said he was a student of the University Center for Social Sciences and Humanities, but preferred not to give its name.
In front, the other contingent pointed out that they were being carried away and they launched slogans against the governor, whom they pointed out to organize the protest. The leader of the administrative staff union Jesús Becerra y César Barba, head of the Higher Secondary Education System; led the group and they stopped some verbal confrontations after both groups approached and were only a few steps away.
“It is an unusual situation, partly due to the inexplicable quarrel that the State Government has towards the University. We have always said it, demonstrations of all kinds are welcome at FIL, they are demonstrating, we listen to their demands although they are understood very little, “said Barba.
After about an hour of protest, the group that demonstrated against the directors of the University withdrew; some members warned that they will demonstrate again this Sunday.
