On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) affirmed that his Government cares for women “out of conviction, not out of fashion”, questioned about their commitment.
“We are going to continue caring for and protecting women, caring for them, confronting and combating femicide, all violence against women, out of conviction, not out of fashion, because in recent times conservatives have become feminists, of course, pure hypocrisy, “said AMLO.
Mexico faces a crisis of sexist violence with more than ten women murdered a day and an increase of more than 28% in the crime of rape so far this year.
AMLO has clashed with the feminist movement for rejecting their demands, but this Thursday he expressed that “the commitment to women is to protect them, not to leave them in distress.”
“To reaffirm our convictions as always because for a long time we have dedicated our work to protecting, defending, the humble, the dispossessed, women, widows,” said López Obrador in today’s “morning” from Zacatecas. .
AMLO stated that his Government has promoted gender parity, remembering that yesterday Wednesday he nominated Victoria Rodriguez Ceja to be the first female governor of the Bank of Mexico (Banxico).
He also pointed out the gender parity that exists in the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
“In the field of political participation, it was our turn to open a gap so that equity was guaranteed and that women participated”
In addition, AMLO boasted of the parity of his cabinet, in which he has appointed the first female head of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), Olga Sánchez Cordero, and of the Secretary of Security, Rosa Icela Rodríguez.
López Obrador argued that “those who most benefit from wellness programs are women”.
“Always supporting poor, helpless women and women, and they are not words, they are deeds,” emphasized AMLO.
