Alexander Zverev has reached the semi-finals at the ATP Finals in Turin thanks to a victory over Hubert Hurkacz. The 2018 German tournament winner pushed the Pole aside 6-2, 6-4.
After an almost flawless performance by Zverev, Hurkacz had to change things up in the first set to have a chance of winning. The Polish number nine in the world decided to get in the lane with every second serve of the Olympic champion. He sometimes had success with that, but just like in the first set there were no chances to break.
Hurkacz took the first two points in Zverev’s save game after breaking in the ninth game. But the 24-year-old German worked his way out of trouble.
Zverev now against Djokovic
Zverev qualifies for the semifinals together with Daniil Medvedev from the so-called green group. The German will meet Novak Djokovic, the winner of the red group, in the semi-final. Medvedev’s opponent is not yet known.
Novak Djokovic qualified for the semifinals after beating Andrej Roeblev.
