The national race with the greatest projection in the ranks of the International Cycling Union would be postponed until 2023, according to reports from Héctor Urrego, dean of Colombian sports journalism and cycling specialist, and his web publication Mundo Ciclístico.
Urrego communicated in the following way what, in advance, is sad news for fans of this sport, one of those that has brought the most joys to the country:
Fedeciclismo and the government decide to postpone the #TourColombia to 2023. Economic reasons, the pandemic and the growing number of new cases in Europe led to the decision.
It should be remembered that the journalist’s announcement is linked to the 2022 edition, which will be two years without sports competition due to the coronavirus pandemic that, despite the vaccination, does not seem to give way in the world.
According to La FM Radio, of the RCN radio network, the determination would have been made jointly between the organizers and the national government due to the economic situation that the organization faced throughout 2021, which prevents it from bringing names of weight to the competition.
The foregoing, together with the rebound in cases in some European countries, forced the parties to extend Tour Colombia 2.1 until 2023, which, according to WHO estimates, would be the first post-pandemic year for the world.
At the time it was considered that thanks to the implementation of biosecurity protocols it would be possible to enable the arrival of cyclists from other latitudes, as well as the presence of followers and sports fans in the delimitations of national roads.
In a scenario of low cases of contagion by coronavirus, the return to normality of sporting events in the country will be feasible throughout 2022. Given the possible arrival of names such as Julian Alaphilippe, Bob Jungels or Chris Froome, as well as locals Egan Bernal, Rigoberto Urán, Nairo Quintana, is latent the possibility of carrying out a first category tournament different from the Tour of Colombia that will be from June 3 to 12 and the Tour of Colombia Women, whose date is scheduled from 9 to August 14, 2022.

Although a tentative route was maintained for the 2021 edition, drawn for the Caribbean region, there was no confirmation of what the official route would be for this year. This uncertainty left a bad taste in the fans, who demanded immediate responses from the organizers without, for now, having been expressed through the media.
In 2018 the Valle del Cauca and Eje Cafetero roads stood out, while in 2019 it was run in Antioquia and in 2020 the dispute was in Boyacá, Cundinamarca and Bogotá. According to the sports commentator and presenter, Tito Pucetti, the initiative contemplated leaving the central region of Colombia for the 2021 and 2022 editions, but without currently knowing what the routes established for the Tour Colombia 2.1 would be.
The idea of this competition is to choose a specific region for each edition and make the race more striking, revealing different parts of the country, as well as competitors that promise or reveal the national territory, as Egan Bernal (2018), were at the time, Miguel Angel Superman López (2019) and Sergio Andrés Higuita (2020), champions in their respective editions.
