Cyclo-cross rider Lucinda Brand has won the Superprestige competition in Niel for the third time in a row. The world and European champion was forced to a tough catch-up race after bad luck, but nevertheless crossed the line solo.
Brand was therefore the best of an ‘orange’ platoon, the entire top six consisted of Dutchmen.
Difficult start
Annemarie Worst, Denise Betsema and Yara Kastelijn took advantage of Brand’s difficult start. They quickly made a hole, but it turned out not to be big enough. Halfway through, Brand found the wheel of the two remaining leaders, Worst and Betsema, who gave them a gear in the final lap.
Worst finished in 18 seconds and Betsema conceded 32 seconds.
These are beautiful days for Brand. On Saturday she also took the European title on the VAM mountain in Wijster in Drenthe.
