Drugs and more drugs bound for Europe. In Panama, they have seized one hundred bags with about 3,500 packages of illicit substances. In total, almost three and a half tons, which is the largest seizure made in the country.
The packages were hidden in containers inside a ship that had arrived from Chile and was heading to the Netherlands.
More and more drugs in containers heading to Europe
According to the Panamanian authorities, drug trafficking is changing its routes that increasingly have the Old Continent as their final destination. Drug traffickers take advantage of the versatility of merchant ships to move drugs from South American ports in the Pacific to Panama and, from there, to the Caribbean to Europe.
So far this year, Panama has broken all its annual drug seizure records, with more than 100 tons, mainly of cocaine.
