To request respect for university autonomy, but also to the rector general of the University of Guadalajara (UdeG), Ricardo Villanueva, and the General Council of Rectors, in ordinary session of the same It was agreed to send a letter to the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).
This in view of the recent declarations of the governor, where he affirmed that “to Mr. Raúl Padilla and his lackeys, at once I tell you that the dark time in which they manipulated institutions, subjected governments to profit and do personal business, is over. in Jalisco. They can kick, do whatever they want, but that stage is over and they are not going to return ”.
In addition to the reallocation of 140 million pesos from the University, which, they have assured, violates university autonomy since they were already assigned.
“We regret that autonomy is violated. Allowing the redistribution of money is to eliminate the division of powers, that is also defended by the University. One thing is that we do not like to fight, another is that we do not defend ourselves, that is why we propose that the Council ask, on behalf of the Council itself, the President, respect for the rector general and this Council, ”Villanueva said.
He expressed that he will not be ashamed of a former rector, as he is a beneficiary of the University.
“You have to be clear and self-critical, because if we want to be critical of Jalisco, we must be critical of ourselves. The University has thousands of defects and things to improve, but it is clear to me that the last 30 years have been a time of light, far from the times of the FEG in the 60s or 70s, “he said.
Added that to say that a person is in charge “is to attempt against all the brilliant minds of the University and they do not deserve to stoop to something so simple”, so he proposed the position.
For their part, members of the newly appointed Council, such as deputy Mara Robles, agreed and pointed out that “It is a tragedy” that university autonomy is discussed in Jalisco, as it is not like that in other countries of the world.
Javier Armenta, president of the Federation of University Students (FEU) said that “the government has no reason or argument, it only remains to confuse and discredit. It is a base tactic to introduce outsiders to sow intimidation for a genuine cause.”, Regarding the recent detections of infiltrators on the walks to Casa Jalisco to deliver letters.
But he was also happy to say that, thanks to the discussion, more students know about the project of the Museum of Environmental Sciences, “and they know that the governor has a limit in the exercise of power. We have to pass the message on and affirm what we have done from the beginning: rights are not asked for, they are demanded, and we are going to assert what corresponds to us. The University was there before he (governor) arrived and will continue when he leaves ”.
