LONDON (AP) – Chelsea, the Premier League leader, showed no mercy to the Norwich City club, who beat 7-0 on Saturday with a hat-trick from Mason Mount and the other goals distributed in the team that did not have his gunners Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, both injured.
Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James scored in the first half and Ben Chilwell, Max Aarons on his own fence and two others from Mount – one from a penalty – completed the win.
Norwich lost center-back Ben Gibson, sent off for a second yellow card in the 65th minute when the count was already 5-0.
The visitors continue without winning and with just two draws on their return to the first division. Chelsea remains in the lead by one.
Mount opened the scoring with a shot from the edge of the area. Then Hudson-Odoi took advantage of a filtered pass from Mateo Kovacic to finish with a low shot in the 18th minute.
James raised the score to 3-0 at the end of the first half, and Chilwell started the second with a goal at 57.
Aarons was unlucky that his attempt to deflect a Hudson-Odoi cross went straight into his own goal.
Mount scored the sixth penalty after Gibson’s strong infraction of James that earned him an expulsion.
Chelsea broke the offside trap with a run by Ruben Loftus-Cheek that sent a cross for Mount’s shot.
Chelsea has a goal difference of +20, the best in the league.
