After the somewhat less successful beta, we return to business as usual. Today the official trailer was revealed for the third unique multiplayer mode to be released on November 19 in Battlefield 2042: Hazard Zone.
Available immediately upon release alongside All-Out Warfare and Battlefield Portal, Hazard Zone is an all-new, heart-pounding squad-based mode for the franchise that combines nerve-wracking gameplay with the very best of the Battlefield sandbox. Every bullet and every decision counts.
By the year 2040, a global blackout will reduce the total number of satellites by 70 percent. Tensions between the United States and Russia are rising. In the wake of this event, temporary low-hanging satellites on both sides have become the new method of gathering information in the form of radiation-resistant Data Drives.
Playable on all seven Battlefield 2042 All-Out Warfare maps, Hazard Zone is a four-player extraction mode where they choose a squad based on their playstyle. Each Specialist introduces a new weapon and trait to the squad. Players looking to build an offensive squad can think of Webster Mackay and Maria Falck, who provide mobility and recovery to the team. Players looking for a more defensive approach can turn to Kimble “Irish” Graves or Pyotr “Boris” Guskovsky, whose Fortification System and SG-36 Sentry Gun help your squad close down an area on the map. As the remaining Specialists are revealed ahead of release, players will discover more ways to tailor their squad to their playstyle in the Hazard Zone.
Players assemble teams to best achieve their goal: recovering Data Drives scattered across the battlefield. This task must be completed as you take on enemy squads with the same objective and face challenges in the environment, such as a tornado that strikes at unforeseen times, deadly Occupying Forces that consume resources and warn nearby enemies.
A Hazard Zone match consists of five main phases: Strategize & Equip, in which players confirm their insertion point, choose their Specialist, and select their equipment and Tactical Upgrades; Insert, bet on the predetermined insertion points; Retrieve, in which squads deploy their Intel Scanner and take on enemy squads, Occupying Forces and the world itself; First Extraction, the first of two survival options; Last Extraction, in which the remaining squads must fight to determine who will escape and who will die. The choices players make have a major impact on the success of the team; choosing the right mix of Specialists, weapons, gadgets and Tactical Upgrades is the key to survival. Players can play 15-20 minute quick matches with 32 players on Xbox Series X|S or play 24 player matches on smaller maps on Xbox One.
Teams exfiltrated from Hazard Zone will receive a base reward, plus additional rewards based on the number of Data Drives they escaped with. Players in Hazard Zone are rewarded in two ways: XP awarded to general level progress/Battle Pass progress and Dark Market Credits (DMC): the currency players use to purchase weapons, gear and equipment at the start of each Hazard Zone match. Select Tactical Upgrades so they can gain advantage during battle. These upgrades range from more ammunition, shorter reload times and extra storage space to resuscitation of fallen squad members. The more intelligence players collect, the more XP and DMC they get.
