Francisco Javier Chavolla Ramos, archbishop of Toluca, State of Mexico, alerted the congregation to the presence of false priests and bishops in the Archdiocese, people whom he described as “charlatans.”
Through a statement, the Archdiocese of Toluca asked citizens to be careful with false priests, who claim to carry out all kinds of Eucharistic celebrations, “which have no validity,” said the church.
Javier Chavolla said that various cases have been detected and even that of a person who called himself a bishop, who has appointed priests and even priestesses, although he stressed that all they do is deceive and take advantage of the beliefs of the people, as well as your need or urgency.
“They are not priests, they are charlatans, with all the word I tell them, because they have nothing sacred, the only thing sacred is their person; but what they do is extort money and deceive people ”.
The archbishop indicated that those Catholics who follow false priests commit an act of heresy, since they have no relationship with the Archdiocese; in addition, he questioned that there are people who think that they only need a blessing, but it is not like that, because “what God gives is true and he gives it through the priestly ministry.”

“It makes me sad and sorry that the people believe them, if they want to believe them they have every right; but they stop being Catholic, because they adhere to what he says, then the sacrament is not valid and they stop being Catholic ”, he lamented.
The Archbishop of Toluca phoned: “Unless they have received a special mandate from God, but the people have the right to accept or reject them.”
And it is that the Archdiocese of Toluca has had several problems with the appearance of Catholic priests and bishops who, without being so, offered sacraments without validity.
In 2018, the church reported that several Catholics from the “Missionary Priestly Fraternity” offered the celebration of the sacrament without being priests.
“These people are not true priests, they are usurping functions that do not belong to them and willfully deceiving some parish communities. These are subjects who have defrauded many parents and offer them the false celebration of these sacraments, ”the statement reads.

The church recalled that the actions carried out by these people “are a true fraud”, since they deceive people by presenting themselves as Catholic ministers without being so, and pretend to administer sacraments that “are invalid and illegal.”
The document also pointed out that in different municipalities of the Toluca Valley, people who present themselves to offer the simulation of the celebration of the sacraments, mainly first communion and confirmation, funeral or thanksgiving celebrations, were detected.
Javier Chavolla expressed in the circular that, although he recognizes the freedom of the people to live religion, as pastor of the Archdiocese of Toluca it is necessary to exhort them to remain in their faith and not fall into these actions.
At that time, several parishioners went to the parish offices to report the phenomenon; The complaints received were accompanied by the photograph of at least a dozen people posing as Catholic priests who were going to celebrate Masses in homes, as well as in funeral homes.
