Diageo, the transnational company of British origin, announced today at a press conference in Casa Jalisco with the presence of state and federal authorities, the investment of 500 million dollars in its operations in the Entity.
Álvaro Cárdenas president of Diageo in Mexico Latin America and the Caribbean announced that the international marketing company of alcoholic beverages has decided to invest in Jalisco for its tequila brands that have been promoted globally.
“Today we wanted to announce the construction of the new facilities that we are going to have here of course here in Jalisco, in the municipalities of Atotonilco el Alto and Atotonilco el de Abajo, through this investment we hope to create more than a thousand new jobs and we want to announce that we are going to have an investment of more than 500 million dollars in the expansion of our operations here, it is the most significant investment we have made in the region during the last 10 years ”, commented the manager.
Cárdenas also highlighted a new factory in the municipality of La Barca that will be its third center in the state.
“This new manufacturing site in La Barca will already be our third in Mexico, another milestone that we began in 2015, with the acquisition of Don Julio and we began here in 2017 with the laying of the first stone, since then the commitment of Diageo has remained intact, driving and accelerating growth in Mexico, responsible for the environment and hand in hand with our communities. Don Julio and our brands (tequila) represent 8% of Diageo’s net sales, the growth was driven by our market in North America, during the same period in Mexico the category in tequila grew 47% driven by Don Julio and his limited editions ”, said Jon Benjamin, ambassador of the United Kingdom in Mexico, pointed out that the linkage of the two countries thanks to Diageo will now be higher.
“Jalisco has been fundamental in the bilateral relationship between our two countries, being one of the most diversified states in its economic activity, the strength of this state is reflected in the foreign direct investment it receives, being the fifth destination of international preference in Mexico for investments, Jalisco’s relationship with the United Kingdom is outstanding, the United Kingdom is the second economic partner of the state, after the United States. Today we celebrate this new investment by Diageo in the land of tequila and we are proud, ”he said.
For his part, the governor of Jalisco thanked Diageo for trust to invest in the state and more at a time that continues to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, that will help the reactivation of the local economy.
“For us this announcement is very important because it is not only 500 million dollars of investment that are being put on the table today, but the trust of a group as important globally as Diageo, In Jalisco and in Mexico that is worth a lot because we have been coming out of a difficult time, we have all been working to create conditions that allow us to reactivate economic activity that allow us to gradually recover confidence., to give certainty to the investment, to recover the lost jobs, to have a booming economy again, it is an effort that will require from everyone and of course in particular from the private initiative that the case of Jalisco has been one of a fully supportive environment ” , he said.
In addition, the Jalisco president highlighted two other things about Diageo in Jalisco, first that the company already has its fiscal domicile in the State and that they are practically ready for the certification process as a deforestation-free product.
