R. Kelly is convicted of extortion and sex trafficking. Known for his hit ‘”I Believe I Can Fly”‘, the R&B singer faces the possibility of spending decades in jail.
The American singer would have taken advantage of his status as a superstar to carry out a plot of sexual abuse of women, girls and boys for two decades.
Jacquelyn Kasulis, Fiscal: “Today’s guilty verdict forever marks R. Kelly as a predator who used his fame and fortune to prey on the young, the vulnerable and the voiceless for his own sexual gratification. A predator who used his inner circle for ensnare underage girls and young men and women for decades in a sordid web of sexual abuse, exploitation and humiliation. “
The court also heard how Kelly had illegally obtained the papers to marry 15-year-old singer Aaliyah, who died in a plane crash in 2001.
At least two former collaborators have pleaded guilty in separate cases involving attempts to silence Kelly’s accusers.
