They demand more places to film quietly. Hundreds of Uruguayans toured Montevideo to pure music, by bicycle and on skates to celebrate World Car Free Day and campaign for the use of environmentally friendly means of transport.
This “massive run” spanned 12 kilometers. It began in the Plaza Independencia of the Uruguayan capital, in front of the Executive Tower (Government House), and passed in front of other state buildings, such as the Intendencia de Montevideo and the Parliament, with an emphasis on the symbolism of making the message heard to the authorities
Arthlez Chacon, Organizer of the Car Free Day:
“What we are looking for is that people take their foot off the gas, reflect, see that there is a form of alternative mobility, more active, that combats sedentary lifestyle, that helps cardiovascular health and the environment, and humanizes society.”
The activists consider that Montevideo, whose vehicle fleet has grown a lot in recent years, should not be planned by giving priority to these vehicles, but by encouraging the use of means of transportation that avoid noise and environmental pollution.
