COVID-19: Vatican will require a coronavirus health certificate from workers and visitors

The Vatican will require workers and visitors to present a health certificate of COVID-19 As of October 1, the press office of the Holy See reported this Monday.

The measure was taken at the request of the Pope Francisco, staunch defender of the vaccination campaign against the coronavirus virus.

According to the ordinance, “as of October 1, 2021” Access to the Vatican City State will be allowed to all persons who present a valid European or foreign health certificate, in order to “prevent, control and counteract” the health emergency.

The Vatican security force will be in charge of controlling the so-called “green passport” that certifies the vaccination against the covid in Italy or the immunization after having passed the disease. The rapid molecular or antigenic test with a negative result performed in the last 48 hours may also be presented.

The only admitted exception is for the faithful who come to “liturgical celebrations for the time strictly necessary for the performance of the rite”, underline the text. According to some media, the exception is valid for people who attend the Wednesday audience at the Vatican chaired by the pope.

With this measure, the Vatican City, an enclave in the heart of Rome, aligns itself with those adopted by Italy, which decreed that as of October 15 it will be mandatory to present a health passport to be able to access workplaces both in the public and private sectors.

Pope Francis recently admitted to the press during his return trip from Slovakia that there is a small group of people within the Vatican against vaccination.

“We are studying how to help them”he commented. The Vatican ordinance does not specify whether the lack of a health certificate will be punished as in Italy, which provides that after five days of unjustified absence, the person can be “suspended” from work and salary.
