The contamination was noticed because the animals were coughing and had a runny nose. Their appetites also decreased. It concerns six African lions, a Sumatran tiger and two Amur tigers. The coming days will show whether more animals have been infected.
“The lions and tigers are being given anti-inflammatories and anti-nausea drugs to counteract the loss of appetite,” the zoo said on its website. The lions and tigers also receive antibiotics.
The zoo says the animals cannot pass the virus on to visitors.
