Guatemala City, Sep 17 (EFE) .- The current Guatemalan soccer champion, Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa, will receive this Saturday the leader of the Apertura 2021 tournament, Antigua, in a duel in which he could climb to the leadership of the championship with a victory.
Santa Lucía, under the command of Nicaraguan coach Mario Acevedo, will be home to the first of the tournament on date 10 of the contest, which began in a preliminary way on Wednesday with the 1-1 draw between Xelajú and Achuapa.
Acevedo, who led Santa Lucía to the first title in their history last May, has his team in second place in the Apertura 2021 tournament, with 21 points, one less than Antigua, at the top of the standings.
The team that Acevedo coaches comes from defeating Comunicaciones 2-0 on Wednesday, in a late match of the eighth day.
Antigua, meanwhile, will seek to stay in the first place under the guidance of Mexican coach Roberto Montoya, after adding seven victories in the first nine rounds.
Santa Lucía is going through one of its best moments so far in the championship and is the only club that remains undefeated, after accumulating six wins and three draws.
The most popular and winning clubs in Guatemala, Municipal and Comunicaciones, will try to raise their faces after losing their last matches.
The Municipal, under the command of Paraguayan coach José Saturnino Cardozo, has lost 1-2 a week ago in the Guatemalan classic against Comunicaciones, which is why it is located in the fifth position.
That is why a victory is transcendental for Cardozo’s team on the ninth date, in which they will face this Saturday the bottom, Cobán Imperial.
Comunicaciones, for its part, will visit Iztapa and its scorer, the Guatemalan Mexican Carlos Félix Suénaga, who has four goals and is ranked fifth as the tournament’s top scorer.
The Communications is in the third box with 19 points, while Municipal is located in the fifth, with 12 units, but with one less game corresponding to the eighth date, against Achuapa.
The tenth day will be completed with the duel between Malacateco-Guastatoya this Friday and the clash on Sunday between Sololá and Nueva Concepción.
