Daniil Medvedev has been proclaimed champion of the US Open 2021 after beating Novak Djokovic in just three sets of 6-4, thus granting him his first Grand Slam.
This triumph of the 25-year-old tennis player caused Djokovic to lose his first opportunity to surpass Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal as the tennis player with the most Grand Slams, leaving all three with 20 titles.
Despite the Serbian’s good return, Medvedev was able to far surpass him, with his serves being one of his keys.
Djokovic showed his frustration, destroying his racket by slamming it against the court after a point, and hiding his tears under a towel during a substitution.
Medvedev’s victory adds to Saturday’s women’s individual champion, Emma Raducanu.
