Tens of thousands of people fill the streets of Barcelona this afternoon in Pau Claris and Via Laietana, in the demonstration for the Diada, the national day of Catalonia, organized by the Assemblea Nacional Catalana (ANC), Òmium Cultural and the Association of Municipalities for Independence (AMI). Despite the fact that the attendance is far from the figures of previous years, the participants have exceeded the route that the organization had marked. The celebration began at dawn, with several more symbolic acts, such as the floral offering to Rafael Casanova, where it was possible to feel the different sensitivities of the political parties towards the dialogue table between governments on the political conflict, which has been to gather next week. In the march, the political formations have not been located in the head and have participated separately.

The demonstration began to walk along the Via Laietana, from the Urquinaona square, at 5:15 p.m., in a nod to the date on which the War of Succession ended and that sets the fall of Barcelona after days of siege for part of the Bourbon troops. This year’s motto of the demonstration is “Let’s fight and win independence” and at the head you could see the president of the ANC, Elisenda Paluzie, and of Òmnium Cultural, Jordi Cuixart. Other leaders of the process Convicted by the Supreme Court and pardoned by the Government in the summer. Most of them participate in the march and had also been to the morning wreath.
Unlike in other years, the organizers have not imposed any participant registration system and therefore a participation calculation cannot yet be made. The ANC recognized that this year only 200 coaches have come to Barcelona from other parts of Catalonia for the Diada. Three years ago there were more than 1,200. All in all, the attendees have passed the initial line of the march and reached the junction of Pau Claris with Provença, six blocks above the starting point. Many participants, shouting for independence and wearing flags stars, they were grouped in their bubbles of coexistence and without becoming a compact group.
The only tense moment of the afternoon was experienced when passing in front of the National Police Headquarters, located on Vía Laietana itself. Several groups of hooded men have broken in, breaking the course of the protesters, and have thrown rolls of toilet paper at the building and have tried to break through the security fences. The anti-riot agents of the Mossos d’Esquadra have not arrived to charge.
The political parties, in their statements before the demonstration, have once again made their differences clear on the dialogue table. In fact, they have all gone to different places. It has been possible to see the former president Quim Torra, accompanied by the president of the Parliament, Laura Borràs. Most of the pardoned independence leaders have attended the march with their respective parties.
“We ask all the pro-independence movement to join in, make a pineapple and take advantage of all the opportunities we have, such as the dialogue table, where we will hold the referendum and amnesty,” said ERC spokesperson Marta Vilalta. Junts per Catalunya has left the position of the day on Borràs’ lips. The leader of the Catalan Chamber has assured that she faces next week’s forum with the Government from “skepticism”, maximized after the episode of “one-sidedness” by parking the investment in the expansion of El Prat due to the discrepancies of the Catalan Government.
On the other hand, far-right and far-left pro-independence groups have clashed at noon in the Fossar de les Moreres from Barcelona, where they have engaged in a fight with throwing objects and some blows.
