Antoinette Beumer, known for directing Soof (2013) and the series In therapy (2010–2011), has been hired by Netflix to devise and develop new series for the streaming service. She will start working for the streaming service from November.
Beumer has been hired as Director Original Series Benelux and will work from the European headquarters in Amsterdam. The maker of Loft (2010) and De Geluke Huisvrouw (2010) must help Netflix with their intention to produce even more Dutch and Belgian titles.
Beumer has been working at Videoland for the past two years, where she made Follow De SOA (2021– ) among other things. She will soon release her latest drama film My father is a plane (2021) at the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht, in which Elise Schaap plays the leading role.
Netflix is increasingly focusing on Dutch-language films and series. For example, the recordings of the Dirty Lines series, about the Amsterdam sex lines in the 80s, have now been completed. In addition, Netflix recently released the first teaser of drama film Forever Rich (2021), with De Oost star Jonas Smulders in the lead role.
